7 Titanium Metal Surface Treatment Process Inventory

Author: Release Date:2026-05-08 Views:87

Titanium metal is an important engineering material, with high strength, corrosion resistance, high temperature stability and other excellent properties, widely used in aviation, aerospace, chemical, medical and other fields. However, because the surface of titanium metal is easy to oxidize, it is easy to react with oxygen, nitrogen and other elements in the surrounding environment, thus forming a surface oxide layer, which affects its service life and performance. Therefore, it is necessary to treat the surface of titanium metal to improve its corrosion resistance, wear resistance and increase its surface roughness. This article will take stock of 7 common titanium surface treatment processes.

1. Mechanical polishing: Mechanical polishing is to smooth the surface of titanium metal through grinding, polishing and other methods, remove surface defects and non-uniformity, and improve its mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.

2. Chemical polishing: Chemical polishing is to use a specific chemical solution to corrode and dissolve a part of the metal on the surface of titanium metal to form a smooth and flat surface to improve its quality and surface gloss.

3. Electrolytic polishing: electrolytic polishing is the use of the principle of electrochemical reaction, to apply voltage or current on the surface of titanium metal, so that it occurs in the electrolyte REDOX reaction, remove the surface loose, slow, rough surface oxide layer, improve its surface finish, gloss and corrosion resistance.

4. Ion implantation: Ion implantation is to inject the desired element ions into the surface of titanium metal, so that its surface hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance are improved.

5. Thermal spraying: Thermal spraying is the use of high-temperature molten spraying materials to form a layer of anti-corrosion, anti-heat, anti-wear coating on the surface of titanium metal to improve corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of titanium metal.

6. Electroless plating: Electroless plating is the use of chemical deposition method to deposit a layer of metal or non-metal coating on the surface of titanium metal to improve the surface hardness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance and electrical conductivity of titanium metal.

7. Oxidation: Oxidation is the use of oxygen and other oxide gases to form a dense, corrosion-resistant, high-temperature stable oxide layer on the surface of titanium metal to protect the surface of titanium metal from some chemical substances and strong acid etching.

Through these surface treatment processes, the performance and service life of titanium metal can be improved and enhanced. At the same time, it should be noted that in the operation process, it is necessary to strictly follow the process flow and requirements to ensure the treatment effect and surface quality.
